Wilmington NC’s leading sons of sludge, Weedeater, cruised through Mojo Main at in Deleware last week with special guests Cough and ASG. Featuring renowned members of the now defunct Buzzov*en, Weedeater is still riding on a wave of momentum created with the band’s latest offering, Jason…The Dragon, which hit streets via Southern Lord Recordings in 2011. The band continues to deliver a pummeling combination of southern sludge and groove metal that offers a wallop of sound to compliment the quirky and charismatic cast of guilty parties.
Weedeater performances never lack in the support department, with last week’s showcase being no exception. Relapse Records recording artists, Cough, kicked off the evening with their epic-styled sludge with long-droning movements that are uncompromisingly slow and brutal. The band continues to support their latest Relapse release, Ritual Abuse, with various tours throughout the US and abroad.
Fellow Wilmington rockers, ASG also brought their blend of heavy rock, incorporating everything from southern metal to punk. The band quickly raised the temperature on the floor with a thick set that spanned the band’s discography. ASG recently signed with Relapse Records and will be recording a new album with Matt Hyde in the near future.
